A municipal park nestled alongside a magnificent snow covered lake with 32 hand-made skating rinks in the background, a winter Saturday night coinciding with the largest event of its kind in the WORLD – the Canadian National Pond Hockey Championships. James Duthie, of TSN hosts the festivities and entertains over 3000 spectators and The Hockey News is on-site.
At one end of the park a 40 foot jumbo video screen has been erected to premiere a film about Haliburton, Ontario Canada's amazing hockey history and its incredible influence on the National Hockey League. Matt Duchene, Ron Stackhouse, Cody Hodgson and Bernie Nicholls are just a few of the key connections to this small rural community of barely 5000 citizens.
In attendance are former NHLers, writers, journalists, media executives, Pond Hockey players and most of the town of Haliburton itself. Hot chocolate and large outdoor heaters keep buns and tummies warm. Talk about a really unique way to launch a film. Nothing says “hockey” in Canada as much as a Saturday night in winter. We look forward to seeing you there!
